The Sisters Behind 4 Sisters

Ever wonder who the 4 Sisters really are? Because each of us has own unique personality, we bring a variety of different backgrounds, experiences and preferences to the table. The one thing that we all agree on is that we have a deep appreciation for things that are different and unique, and wanted to bring that niche home to the Coulee Region. Pick a name below for a Q & A with each sister to learn more.

Kathy, 4 Sisters’ House Manager

Q. What was your vision when
starting 4 Sisters?

A. My vision when starting 4 Sisters was for customers to feel transported to a place they could only imagine visiting – maybe through magazines or television – and never have to leave La Crosse. We put a lot of attention into details when choosing the location and designing the interior.

Q. Why are you passionate about good food and good wine?kathy

A. Tasting great wines and food – waking up the senses and discovering something new – is such a compelling experience. I love sharing that revelation with others. Great feeling.

Q. What inspires you?

A. To live life to the fullest – enjoying family & friends – and to work hard! My dad always said that good old hard work never killed anyone! That’s my inspiration.

Q. What is your role at 4 Sisters?

A. I primarily oversee the flow of operations for the restaurant & bar area – trouble shooting for staff and managing flow of customers. I also order and research beers, wines, and spirits for 4 Sisters.

Q. What is it like running a business with 3 of your sisters?

A. Fun, complex, overwhelming, and intuitive, as us Sisters believe in being open and saying what we would like to say without holding back. I’d say we have a bit of the Irish temper, lots of the Italian loudness, a sprinkle or two of the German stubbornness…and we’re not afraid to show any of it! But at the end of the day, we care for each other, have each other’s backs and would do anything to help each other out. Many thanks to our parents and the family values they instilled in us.

Q. How have you added your personal touch to 4 Sisters?

A. My personal touch would be my creativity, enthusiasm for research, and my positive attitude.

Q. What would you request to have for your last meal on earth?

A. Crab legs floating down a river made entirely of butter.

Q. How would the other sisters describe you?

A. Easy going, frugal, with a splash of wit and sass every now and again.

Q. What is the one thing you could not live without?

A. Sleep

Q. What are your favorite food and wine items on the menu and why?

A. Wine – This changes for me as often as we change our menu but right now Belle Glos C & T Pinot Noir, Cakebread Pinot Noir, Moss Roxx, and Scott Harvey White Label – all Amazeballs.
Food – I am partial to the Fish Tacos and Lobster Tail, because they make me smile when I am enjoying them.

Traci – 4 Sisters’ House Manager

Q. What was your vision when
starting 4 Sisters?

A. Being someone who traveled all over the country who truly appreciates a good dining experience, I wanted to bring a different dynamic to La Crosse; A combination of big city with a small town feel where everyone knows your name. My goal was to open a place that was more than the local hot spot.

Q. Why are you passionate about good food and good wine?traci

A. Because I am passionate about the arts, exploring new places, and meeting new people. Wine and food combine all those things and attract so many different types of people. Finding good food and good wine is not as easy as it seems. All too often you can’t find them in the same place.

Q. What inspires you?

A. Creative people, things, places, newness, cutting edge, trendy yet I love the old world.

Q. What is your role at 4 Sisters?

A. I think my role is connecting with people, connecting with staff, connecting with the customer, and the strong desire to pamper people and give them an ultimate experience that makes them want to come back.

Q. What is it like running a business with 3 of your sisters?

A. Let me just say this…if we could have had our own Reality Show it would have been a hit. The Jersey Housewives have nothing on us.

Q. How have you added your personal touch to 4 Sisters?

A. I’m the oldest. Enough said.

Q. What would you request to have for your last meal on earth?

A. I don’t know how to answer that, but if I had to choose I would bring almost any dish and have Lori recreate it for me.

Q. How would the other sisters describe you?

A. Well how the hell do I know. But if I had to say…it rhymes with “witch.”

Q. What is the one thing you can’t live without?

A. Shoes

Q. What are your favorite food and wine items on the menu and why?

A. Wine – Red Zin, Old Vine, White Label Scott Harvey, Malbec Criois.
Food – I can’t choose. That’s why I opened a Tapas Restaurant…so I can try several different things without having to be committed to just one thing.

Corynn, 4 Sisters’ Accountant

Q. What was your vision when
starting 4 Sisters?

A. It’s all about the experience. To create an environment where people could share great food, wine and each other’s company. To feel comfortable trying new things without feeling that they sacrificed their dinning out experience, but to get them outside their comfort zone. To discover food and wine or beer pairings per their own tastes, and not necessarily what someone else recommended.

Q. Why are you passionate about good food and good wine?corynn_0

A. It’s only been in the last few years that I have discovered a passion for food and wine. I’ve always enjoyed a nice glass of red wine but when it comes to food, I preferred the basics. I was one of those people that consistently ordered the same item because I knew what it would be like and I wouldn’t have chanced that my meal wasn’t good. Of all the Sisters, my pallet has expanded the most; it truly is about quality not quantity.

Q. What inspires you?

A. I’m inspired when someone chooses to celebrate one of their important life moments at 4 Sisters and we exceed their expectations. I’m inspired when our team gets excited about a compliment we received from our guests.

Q. What is your role at 4 Sisters?

A. We all contribute to all areas of the business, but my main responsibility is the operations. I use the 18 years of business experience and knowledge I’ve gained outside of the restaurant to help run operational aspects of the restaurant.

Q. What is it like running a business with 3 of your sisters?

A. Exciting, frustrating, overwhelming, and rewarding.

Q. How have you added your personal touch to 4 Sisters?

A. It’s ok to make mistakes as long as we can learn from them and keep trying; we’ve never done this before and we’re not going to always get it right.

Q. What would you request to have for your last meal on earth?

A. Lobster, broccoli steamed just right, and a hot fudge sundae with extra fudge.

Q. How would the other sisters describe you?

A. Passionate, stubborn, open, compassionate, understanding, and demanding.

Q. What is the one thing you could not live without?

A. Family…assuming that is a given, then my computer.

Q. What are your favorite food and wine items on the menu and why?

A. Wine – Red wine, con cab or malbec. I love the linger on your tongue.
Food – Lobster, it’s just the right amount, Mini Blue burgers – the flavors are amazing, goes great with my red wine and I get my burger fix, and any dessert that Lori makes.
